Presidential candidate Heather Humphreys says she will deliver a more inclusive and age-conscious Presidency.

Speaking following a visit to the offices of ALONE this week, she said: “Ireland is changing, and so too must the national conversation about ageing. By 2051, the number of people over the age of 65 is expected to more than double what it is now. We need to ensure that policies, communities and the Presidency reflect the reality.”

As part of her commitment to championing the needs of Ireland’s ageing population, Heather Humphreys shared plans with the CEO of ALONE Sean Moynihan to set up a ‘Presidential Engagement Forum’, which will be a dedicated platform to bring advocacy groups and organisations representing older people across Ireland together.

The forum will serve as a consultation body to inform the President’s perspectives on priorities on ageing, care and dignity in later life.

Heather Humphreys’ visit to the offices of ALONE is part of her broader campaign focus of unity and social inclusion.

“I will ensure that every voice, regardless of age, is heard at the highest level of Irish public life,” she concluded.
